unesco[edit]

Hi. Do you know the copyright tags for Image:UNESCO.png and Image:UNESCO-logo.png? Also, they seem to be redundant, maybe we can list one for deletion? -- Chris 73 04:18, 5 Nov 2004 (UTC)

Hi, Cris. You've kind a caught me while I was submitting the info.
I added license information, and also added delete to Image:UNESCO.png.

Thanks -- Chris 73 05:52, 5 Nov 2004 (UTC)

france[edit]

FYI: Image:France-flag.png has been deleted since it was redundant with Image:Flag of France.png -- Chris 73 14:20, 21 Dec 2004 (UTC)

How do you define "redundancy"? My image was here first (no later than 2004-Nov-12), and by deleting it here you have broken the image on WP:ru (and maybe somewhere else). I think you are better delete something, iff this does not break anything else.

Thats a valid problem. Currently, we don't know where an image from the commons is used, and so have no way to update the links. About the selection of the image: I try to select the better (larger?) image if possible, which of course is a somewhat subjective decision. My apologies for the trouble I caused on the russian site. Again, this is a still unsolved problem, and has happened before with other admins/images. Sorry -- Chris 73 00:33, 3 Jan 2005 (UTC)
I agree with you that the quality of current image is better, although it seems to me that the blue is too dark, but it maybe my monitor. I am not against the removal of the redundant material, it is that your explication did not seem very convincing to me, sorry :-))
As I understand you, there is no way to make some kind of link (from new one to old one)? If it is not possible to make a link, may be we should give people more time to replace the images? Something like 2 weeks would be nice (I check my page here only when I upload the images, like, I presume, most of the people here, and it does not happen every day).
The best solution to this problem, of course, would be the list of pages, where common material is used.
P.S. It would be nice to be notified about the messages, waiting on other WPs. For example, I kind of register my other account to be notified, and I give the permission (from that account) to be notified.

Image:UNESCO-logo.png[edit]

Sorry, its me again , the image has been deleted, as it was redundant with Image:UNESCO flag.png. The other image had a larger resolution. BTW, I would recommend you to add your contributed images to your watchlist, so you know immedeately if there is a deletion request or similar thing going on, and can respond (e.g. on Commons:Deletion requests) -- Chris 73 04:26, 21 Jan 2005 (UTC)

How a logo is redundant to a flag?! It's different format! Is is created for different purposes!
Look, I do not mind, if the image is really redundant, and if one of the images is at lower resolution, then it should be deleted. But to delete the logo image just because there is a flag image -- this just does not make sense to me. Does it to you? If so, do you care to explain me? And another question: will you delete all logo, that have some resemblance to some flags or not? If so, why would you do that? If not, why did you do that to UNESCO logo?
You do realize, that two or even ten PNG one-colour images do not occupy too much disk space, don't you? You can gain more disk space, if you remove some not duplicated (but still unused and unusable image).
P.S. I do not check this account every day, so I invite you to my RU talk page or meta.
